Things to see & do
Tingha has been built on aboriginal heritage, farming & the mining days of the 1870’s.
The population of Tingha in its heyday was over 7,000 people. A large population of Chinese worked in the mining industry.
Tin was mined along with diamonds, silver, and lead.
The sign at the entrances to Tingha says it all “Step back in Time” Tingha is also on a “common” where cattle graze & have right of way. Tingha streets are named after gem stones.
In the 1930’s there were Aboriginal missions in the area. Visit the Stone Woman Aboriginal Area.
You can see amazing architecture from the Old Bank building, Police House, miners cottages all nestled amongst the wild beauty of Copes Creek & the old mining tailings, dams & natural rock formations.
One area is the swimming pool, previously used as the Public Baths. At Peachey’s Cut there is an excellent opportunity for bird watching & fishing or just relaxing.
Fossicking areas can be found in the Stannifer are for other places and directions ask at the Tingha store.
A drive to Copeton Dam will give you good fishing and at Gilgai eggs,fresh fruit & vegetables at the orchard & enjoy a glass of wine at the winery.
Stone Woman Aboriginal Area
An historic Aboriginal Site one hour in total for the 1.5klm return walk from the car park.The car park is 6klm south of Tingha on the unsealed Kempton Road. Picnic area, take water & a hat.

Wing Hing Long Museum - Ruby Street a wonderful old store built in 1891 really worth the visit. The store is how it was years ago . Devonshire Tea available. Mt Topper State Forest-lovely forest drive abundant wildlife at dawn and dusk especially kangaroo.
New Valley Road-a lovely drive through stunning forest and rock formations. See balancing rocks and various rocks that look like turtles and other creatures.
Elsmore - Paradise Creek a great trip through open country side & forest area. See the small hamlets of Old Mill, Stannifer & Elsmore. Wonderful sunflowers crops in summer. Look out for native Grass Trees. The trip crosses creeks & the head waters of the McIntyre River. parrots, kangaroo, wallaby, turtles & lizards abound.
